What Causes Different Kinds of Pains?

Pain Management Jun 18, 2015

Mild aches and pains are to be expected every now and then, but when bodily pain becomes consistent, it is time to see a doctor. The best treatment for you will depend upon the exact pain you are experiencing and what caused it. Because there are different kinds of pains, a thorough examination will be in order, and after that, you will get the treatment you need to start living your life pain-free.

Depending on your type of pain, your doctor can help narrow down a specific diagnosis, and from there, create a treatment plan.

There are many types of pain – some are more prevalent than others. Some of the most common types of pain include:

  • Back pain
  • Carpal tunnel pain
  •  Trigeminal Neuralgia

Back Pain

Back pain is a relatively common form of pain many people experience at some point, and the reason behind it can vary.

It could be caused by lifting something improperly, or it could be the result of a more serious medical issue like degenerative discs, arthritis, scoliosis, spinal fractures or a pinched nerve.

Back pain is also associated with prolonged sitting and a sedentary lifestyle. Based on the exact cause, the best treatment could involve lifestyle changes, medication or surgery.

Carpal Tunnel Pain

Carpal tunnel syndrome is an increasingly prevalent problem within the population, and it is the result of the median nerve in one or both of your wrists becoming swollen. Although overusing your wrists can lead to this condition, it can also be caused by high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction and rheumatoid arthritis.

Depending on the cause of your carpal tunnel, there are different treatment options. For example, utilizing supplements for thyroid disorders, or undergoing joint injections for carpal tunnel from arthritis.

Carpal tunnel is particularly problematic if you need to use a keyboard for your job, so see a doctor for the necessary treatment.

A specialist will help determine such causes, to ensure you create a personalized treatment plan that will work for you.

Trigeminal Neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic condition that affects the face when the trigeminal nerves become damaged.

A number of causes can bring about this condition, including aging, multiple sclerosis, brain lesions or tumors.

Chronic pain in the face requires a visit to a medical professional, who will most likely prescribe medication to treat your condition.

Any type of pain should never be considered normal, and if it does not go away or becomes increasingly worse, you need to seek treatment immediately.

Delaying a visit to the doctor could make the pain far more unbearable, so schedule an appointment as soon as something feels wrong.

Different kinds of pains result in different treatments, and it’s best to meet with a doctor to discuss your options.
